All of the Mawbeys I have found so far who came to Australia were from England. The ancestry of my English-born great great grandfather, George Mawbey (b.c.1809), the first in my line to come Australia remains a mystery. His wife, Ann Williams, may have been Welsh. I am trying to track down George's English origins by tracing individuals on the Mawbey family tree published by Rev William Betham in 1803.

According to the pedigree of Sir Joseph Mawbey of Botleys Surrey, several of his ancestors were named Erasmus Mawbey.
They were named after the Dutch Catholic scholar, possibly to inspire them to similarly follow the path of higher learning.
Information about all the Erasmus Mawbeys I have found so far is on a separate 'page' on this blog.
